A common conclusion I hear in meetings is: “We implemented a behavior plan and it didn’t work, so placement needs to change.” Placement may be a conversation, but it is not an intervention. Placement changes are not behavior interventions. When a student’s current behavior produces a predictable payoff (escape, attention, or both) quickly and consistently, and the plan offers a smaller payoff after extended demands, the plan is not competing with reality.
